So I decided while I was off for Christmas break that I would drive to the closest Kroger and do some shopping. Closest one is a 30 min drive which wasn't bad. I left Will at Mom's and went by myself... very relaxing!
So I had a list of things I had coupons for that I wanted to get. I figured I could get a good deal with my coupons since Kroger doubles up to .50. SO I went in figuring I would spend $100 on groceries. I know that I have said I wanted to stay within $200 a month, but I am thinking that might not be feasible right now since I am needing to stock up on some things before I cut my budget.
So armed with my coupons and their sale paper... I went in. I ended up spending $104.65 total but saved $63.20 total. I was able to get my frozen meals that I eat at work for under $2 a meal, plus the yogurt I will be eating was .50 each and I had coupons for both of them. I ended up getting two frozen meals for free with my coupons and the yogurt ended up being .25 each.
so total for this trip was $104.65. I still need to buy meat and Soy milk. Piggly Wiggly is having a 3 day sale starting tomorrow on the meat and Mom and I are heading there tomorrow. Will needs his milk tonight so I will head out to Walmart later this evening once Don gets home from work to watch him (or go with me).
On a seperate note.... Happy New Years!!
I am a working mom who is just trying to save some money. This blog will be posts about me saving some money by using coupons. I shop mainly in my hometown, but do travel out of town to be able to hit Kroger, Publix, etc.

Shopping trip 12-28
I went to WAGS with my mom. Don had a prescription to refill... which I transferred to Walgreens with a coupon from the makers of Singulair that got me the script for free. I also had a coupon for a free $25 gift card with a transfer.
And thanks to Hot Coupon World and A Full Cup, I knew about a glitch with the cat machine in which the Robitussim/ Dimetapp was making $20 in Register rewards instead of the $10. Thanks ladies!
total transactions:
5 Robitussim at $4.00 each
5 Dimetapp at $4.00 each
2 Christmas light sets on sale $1.25 each
2 Always Infitity pads at $4.99 each
1 Tennessean newspaper .99 (which had three sets of the coupons YAY!)
4 Christmas tumblers on sale .06 each
1 Glade scented oil sets $3.99
1 Dawn dishwashing liquid $1.99
used coupons:
1 $2/1 Robitussim
2 $2/1 Dimetapp

1 .50/1 Dawn
1 $1 Wags coupon on Dawn (making it .99 before coupons)
1 $2.50/ 1 Glade scented oil set
1 $10 Register Reward from 1st transaction.
Total cost:
1st transaction: $13.85 gift card
2nd transaction: $5.33 cash

Recieved $30.00 in register rewards (spent $10.00)

I already have plans for the register rewards for next week since they expire then... can't wait to see what I can do with them!

My first planned visit for the new year
Ok so technically it isn't the new year yet, but I will be beginning my shopping tomorrow for the new year. DH just told me that he is out of his meds... which I almost jumped up and down about. This means I can transfer his meds and get a $25 gift card to Walgreens. Add in the $20 singulair coupon we got in the mail, I get his meds for free plus a $25 gift card.
I do have a list of things I would like to stock up on and be able to start my supply of RR's from Wags. I should come out with just over $3.00 on my gift card while using a $10 register reward (RR) and getting $1.10 back in rebates. Now this is if I do purchase everything on my list... I might wait on some of them since my coupons are not that great for a few items.

My plan for the new year
I have a new plan for the new year. I am always saying I will save money and budget my money better every Jan. but never manage to follow through with it. This year I plan on doing it and blogging about it. I plan on reducing my monthly grocery budget by half since I think we are spending too much on groceries each month.
My plans:
My plans:
- budget $200 a month to be spent on groceries, household items, cleaning supplies and pull ups.
- keep track of all savings due to coupons, rebates, etc
- build up a good stockpile of canned food, household supplies, etc.
I think I can do this and will use this blog to keep track of my progress. The stores I will be shopping at are Walgreens, Walmart, Fred's, Rite Aid, and Dollar General. I might be able to make it Kroger some but that is usually only once a month and can't be guaranteed.
So check back often. I plan on posting here as often as I can.
